The NBA has decided the punishment to Ja Morant

The NBA already knows what it will do with Ja Morant, but for now it prefers not to reveal it. As explained by the competition commissioner, Adam Silver, speaking to the media just before the Finals began. The ‘boss’ of the League indicated that a decision has been made regarding the impending disciplinary action that will be imposed on the Memphis Grizzlies star, Ja Morant, but that they will wait until there is a champion to announce the punishment.

“We have uncovered a fair amount of additional information, I think, since I was first asked about the situation. I will say that we probably could have made our determination effective at this point, but we made the decision, and I think the players’ association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams that are playing in the Finals to announce the results of the research now”, he comments before emphasizing that being in the period between seasons nothing will change by waiting a few weeks.

«Since we are in the offseason and he has already been suspended indefinitely by the Grizzlies, nothing would change anyway in the next few weeks. It seemed best to put that aside at the moment, at least any public announcement. My feeling now is that shortly after the conclusion of the Finals we will announce the result of that investigation, “he says.

The events for which the NBA has once again taken action on the matter occurred on May 14. That was the day a video began to circulate on social networks in which Ja Morant brandished a game weapon. Before this incident, the NBA had already suspended him with eight games for a similar event in March. The player came to travel to New York to meet with Adam Silver, but such a conversation ended up being fruitless.

Did he go too easy on Morant?

That’s the question Adam Silver was asked last night. After imposing an eight-game ban on him and a conversation that seemed sincere to the commissioner, they understood at that moment that it was an adjusted punishment. That’s how you see it now.

“I guess in retrospect, I don’t know. If it had been a 12-game suspension instead of eight…would that have mattered? At the time it seemed appropriate. That’s all I can say. Maybe, by definition, insofar as we’ve all seen the video that looks like he did it again, I guess you could say maybe not. But I don’t think we know yet what it will take to change their behavior. He has made mistakes, but he is young. I repeat what I said at the time: I think he is a good boy », he sentences.
