The League Approves Activities and Budget for 2023/2024 Season, Emphasizes Fan Engagement and Internationalization Efforts

The League, meeting in an Ordinary General Assembly this Monday, at the Auditorium João Aranha, at the organization’s headquarters, in Porto, unanimously approved the Report of Activities and Accounts for the 2023/2024 season.

This General Assembly, already led by José Mendes Gomes, elected last Friday, began with an intervention by Pedro Proença, president of the League, on the facts that became public and the measures adopted regarding the ongoing process involving Mário Costa , former chairman of the Board of the General Assembly, and BSports (see associated news).

Regarding the Plan of Activities and Budget for the 2023/2024 season, the League presented, for the first time, a consolidated Plan of Activities and Budget of its business group, compiling, in addition to the budget of Liga Portugal itself, the budget of its associates: Football Foundation – Liga Portugal, Liga Portugal Business School, Liga Portugal Centralização, Liga Portugal Comercial and Liga Portugal Infraestruturas.

In budgetary terms, the document, prepared based on the new Strategic Plan for the 2023-2027 cycle, built in collaboration with the EY consultancy, presents a forecast of operating results in excess of one million euros (€1,110M), with global revenues above of 26 million euros (€26,487M), thus maintaining the path of sustainability and development of the League that has marked the last four years.

With the mission of definitively asserting itself as a major driver of the development of Portuguese football, this 2023-24 budget also provides for the largest distribution ever to sports companies, in excess of nine million euros.

Here are the key stakes:

1. The Fan as the central axis of the sports show: Because the fans are the soul of Professional Football and it is for them that we work, we have to meet their expectations, making them the central axis of all decisions;

2. Valuing and training Sports Agents: Training is one of the fundamental pillars for professional football. Liga Portugal will continue to invest in an increasingly solid and demanding formation;

3. Valuing Professional Competitions: The quality of the product will always be at the top of the list, making the competitions organized by Liga Portugal increasingly competitive and attractive;

4. Liga Portugal as a Central Agent for the Growth of Professional Football in Portugal: Liga Portugal will lead by example, not only in discussing topics relevant to the industry but also in guaranteeing values ​​such as Ethics, Transparency and Credibility;

5. The internationalization of the Liga Portugal brand: Giving ever greater visibility to Portuguese Professional Football abroad, whether in competitions or in world-wide events, such as the Thinking Football Summit, will be another of the priorities;

6. The Centralization of Audiovisual Rights: Liga Portugal will continue to work on an irreversible and decisive process for the sustainability and competitiveness of Professional Football, guaranteeing a model in which all Clubs will win;

7. Decreasing the context costs of Professional Football: Liga Portugal will continue to fight to guarantee conditions that allow providing Sports Societies with competitive arguments similar to those given to their main competitors at an international level.
