The International Federation (IIHF) has officially announced the composition of the two groups for the next World Championship (May 10-26, 2024 in the Czech Republic). They are based on the world ranking. The France team, which was maintained last May, a year after its return to the top flight, will play in group A in Ostrava.
The Blues will face Germany, finalist of the 2023 World Cup, Latvia, surprise bronze medalist, the United States, who finished fourth, Sweden, beaten in the quarter-finals, but also Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Poland, who are back in the top flight after a 22-year absence.
Russia and Belarus still suspended
In Group B, to be held in Prague, we will find the Czech Republic, Canada, world champions, Finland, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Austria and Great Britain, also promoted in the elite.
The top four from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, while the last will be relegated. As was the case last year and this season, Russia and Belarus are suspended, due to the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, with the support of Belarus.
