Relatives: Negative sentiment towards the Penix selection is not beneficial.

Cousins stated that this is not an unfamiliar idea and there is a recognition that in the NFL, anything is possible.

The Falcons signed Cousins, an experienced quarterback, to a four-year deal worth 0 million in March. In a surprising move last month, the team drafted quarterback Michael Penix Jr. from Washington with the No. 8 pick.

I do not believe it is beneficial. Our goal is to win a Super Bowl, which is already challenging. Let’s unite and work towards achieving a Super Bowl victory.

  • Cousins shared that he offered congratulations to the individual for their impressive career in college. He personally understands the challenges of achieving this level of success and believes that this person’s achievements are among the best. Cousins also expressed his admiration and readiness to start working together, assuring the individual of his support if needed.

On draft night, Cousins reached out via text to Penix, who led Washington to the national championship game last season. Cousins wanted to give Penix his contact information so he could offer support to the new quarterback.1 Related
35-year-old Cousins shared that three years prior, during his time with the Vikings, he was out golfing on draft night. He received a call from the Vikings’ offensive coordinator at the time, Klint Kubiak, who informed him that the team was considering drafting a quarterback. As a result, Cousins stated that he has been aware for some time of teams’ tendency to have succession plans in place.

The Falcons will begin OTAs this week, following last week’s rookie minicamp. Cousins suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in Week 8 of the 2023 season, causing his season to come to an end. However, according to Falcons coach Raheem Morris, Cousins is now able to participate fully in all team activities during this portion of the offseason program.

During an interview on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast released on Tuesday, Cousins discussed the situation for the first time. When questioned about any potential conflict with the Falcons regarding Penix’s draft, Cousins replied, “I don’t believe there is any.”
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Cousins’ representative Mike McCartney stated that there was perplexity and annoyance among Cousins’ team when the Falcons acquired his replacement prior to him officially joining the team and the franchise did not make any progress with their top-10 pick for the 2024 season.Marc Raimondi, ESPN Staff WriterMay 14, 2024, 09:26 AM ET
