The eight-year-old son of the Finnish legend achieves an unofficial world record

Eight-year-old Jimmy took part in the local competition on Sunday, throwing the 400-gram javelin 35.97 meters, an unofficial world record for his age group.

The record is unofficial, as world records are not officially registered until the age of 17.

Currently, 40-year-old Pitkemeki is training 26-year-old Finnish javelin thrower Oliver Helander and has previously stated that he does not force his son to practice javelin. “I’ve given him a couple of suggestions and he’s taken them on board. He’s really interested in the sport,” Pitkemeki said.

Pitkemeki is a Finnish athletics legend. He has won all blacksmith medals at the world championships and also won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Soma’s personal best is 91.53 meters.
