A badminton competition to promote tomatoes, a specialty of Gwangju, will be held for the first time in four years.

The Gwangju City Sports Association announced on the 8th that it will hold the ‘6th Gwangju City Tomato Cup Badminton Competition’ on the 18th. This tournament was held for the first time in 4 years since 2019, which could not be held due to Corona 19, etc., drawing attention from badminton clubs.

Hosted by the Gwangju City Sports Association and supervised by the Gwangju City Badminton Association, this tournament is sponsored by Gwangju City, Gwangju City Council, and Gyeonggi Ilbo.

About 800 people from 350 badminton clubs nationwide will participate in this competition held at the Gwangju Citizens Gymnasium and the Multipurpose Gymnasium of the Cultural Sports Center.

The competition is divided into men’s and women’s doubles, age group, and class, and ranks up to 3rd place in each group. Tomatoes, a Gwangju specialty, will also be presented to all participants.

An official from the Gwangju Sports Association said, “We hope for a lot of interest and support for the ‘Gwangju City Tomato Cup Badminton Competition’ held to widely publicize tomatoes, a special product of Gwangju City, improve the quality of sports for everyday life, and promote friendship among club members.”
