After beating HSV 3-0, VfB Stuttgart can look forward to at least another year of Bundesliga play. The win was “enormously important”, said VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß after the final whistle on “Sat1” and praised “the way” his team played.

Hoeneß also explained why he chose Enzo Millot over Silas. “We wanted to take a playful approach. Enzo is extremely secure with the ball and difficult to get hold of between the lines,” the coach said of the Frenchman’s advantages – and the idea worked, Millot played conspicuously and even shone as the preparer for Josha Vagnoman’s 2-0 .

Vagnoman restrained himself with his jubilation, out of “respect” for his former club, where he once matured to become a professional. At VfB he even made it to the national team, although he wasn’t even a regular player when he was called up to the DFB squad for the first time.

He is an absolute full professional who does everything to perform.

That changed in the second half of the season – and not without reason. “He’s an absolute professional who does everything to perform. But he’s also a young lad – and at some point there will be leaps in development. It’s nice that he’s made them now,” said Hoeneß about the 22-year-old and added: “He did really well from day one and now he’s been an important factor.”

Vagnoman wasn’t the only important factor against the Northern Lights. For example, there is Konstantinos Mavropanos, who headed the Swabians to victory after just a few seconds. “If you have someone who is as strong in the air as Marvropanos, then that’s half the battle,” Hoeneß praised the Greek and emphasized that there are “two or three other” games at VfB that know how to head.

Hoeneß pays great respect to Guirassy

Serhou Guirassy, who performed under his circumstances, especially in the first half, was also praised. Negative highlight: his missed penalty (Reis to Millot) in the 27th minute. Hoeneß admitted he wasn’t upset about his striker’s poor performance, saying he found “it’s all the more amazing that he scored after that”.

With regard to Guirassy’s unfortunate performance, Hoeneß stated that there are also players who you no longer see in a game after such a performance, “they may even ask for a substitution at half-time.” But not the Franco-Guineer, who finally rewarded himself with the 3-0 after the change of sides. “Seeing it that way, I have the utmost respect,” said Hoeneß: “I told him that too.”
