Spain ties the Pre-Olympic and looks at the Eurobasket medals

Mendez’s strike down Germany and will face Hungary in the semifinals

MADRID, 22 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s basketball team defeated the German team without discussion (67-42) this Thursday in the quarterfinals of Eurobasket 2023, an exhibition at the Stozice Arena in Ljubljana to ensure a place in the Pre-Olympic and meet on Saturday with Hungary in semifinals.

Those of Miguel Méndez did not give a choice to a young and soft Germany, nervous about having a favorite in front of them and with no response to the gale. Spain dominated from start to finish, with an already definitive step after the break marking differences of 20 points. Laura Gil (13 points and 11 rebounds) was the most outstanding in achieving the first goal in Slovenia.

The four-time European champion met the goal of the Pre-Olympic ahead of the Paris 2024 event and will now go for the medals against a Hungary that beat the Czech Republic on the horn (62-61). Méndez was able to rotate, without counting on María Conde injured against Greece, and get the most out of a team that is once again among the best after the fateful 2021.
