The provinces best with a birdie were in attendance in Nipawin over the weekend. After Rosetown held the SHSAA Region A badminton regionals on May 4, two of their teams, and three players total made up the west-central representatives in the categories of girls doubles and girls singles at provincials on May 11.
As you can see below, Rosetown Central High School had a special send-off for their athletes last Friday.
Starting with the girls doubles team, the opening game for Weber & Fischer of Rosetown saw them lose 2-0 (21-8, 21-13) to LeBoldus. After that the second game of the day was closer as they lost to a Nipawin qualifier 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 21-18). That tight loss put them behind the eight ball headed into the second match against Lloydminster, where they lost 2-0 (21-17, 21-11) to end their day with a fourth place finish in Pool B.
For girls singles, Rosetown (Green) was the lone local competitor. Rosetown lost a close game to Indian Head in the opener 2-0 (21-18, 23-21). Rosetown’s next match against host Nipawin saw another 2-0 loss (21-13, 21-11), and then the competition stayed high as Rosetown started good against Tommy Douglas, but eventually lost once again 2-0 (21-17, 21-12) to finish fourth in Pool A.
