Serenity starred in the celebration of Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros, who kept the screams and even the tears. After the winning point, he lay on the ground with his legs and arms outstretched, but soon got up and sat in his chair to quietly, calmly watch the entire trophy ceremony. There were videos, there was a small tribute to Yannick Noahlast French champion, 40 years ago, there was a brief speech from Casper Ruud and then it was Djokovic’s turn.

Dressed in a Lacoste sweatshirt made for the occasion, with a 23 on the right of the chest, Djokovic raised the Musketeers Cup at one end of the stage, sang the Serbian anthem and began his thanks. First, he addressed the local audience in French. “It is curious that I have achieved 23 here, in the Grand Slam that has cost me the most, where I have had very hard times, it is very, very special,” he commented. And then, already in English, he addressed his team. “I want to thank you for your patience and your tolerance. People don’t see it, but in the last few weeks I have tortured you,” Djokovic said.

“My children are here and that’s why I want to send a message to young people around the world. Whatever you want in life, go after it. When I was 17 years old, I wanted to win Wimbledon and be the number one in tennis and I worked a lot to achieve it. I felt it with every cell of my body, I found the power to create my own destiny. My advice is this: if you want a better future, create it”, proclaimed Djokovic, who ended his speech with a patriotic emblem: “Serbia !”

Before, he had thanked sports stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Tom Brady y Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who encouraged and congratulated him. Others, from home, also did it, like Rafael Nadalwho wrote on Twitter: “Many congratulations on this incredible achievement Djokovic. 23 was an impossible number to imagine a few years ago and you did it! Enjoy it with your family and team!”
