How time flies… the last time the members of the 1st Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and Karate Club eV, Haßloch and USM Viroflay met was in spring 2019. The promised visit in the following year was canceled due to the pandemic. The joy was all the greater that the 1st Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and Karate Club eV (1st JJJKC) was the first club to visit Viroflay from June 9th to 11th, 2023 after the Corona interruption.
A total of 13 people from the 1st JJJKC took part in the exchange. Many of them were there for the first time. Others, such as the coach of the judo section, have visited Viroflay more than 15 times.
The joy of seeing each other again was huge. After Friday evening was spent in small groups with the host families, Saturday started with a trip to Paris. The obligatory visit to the Eiffel Tower was followed, among other things, by a walk along the Seine in bright sunshine.
After lunch together in a neighboring town of Viroflay, joint training at the USM Viroflay sports facility was on the agenda. The number of participants was overwhelming. It was a fantastic training, jointly designed by the trainers of USM Viroflay and 1st JJJKC. The joy and enthusiasm with which the training was shared by all participants, whether young or old, was fascinating.
After the athletes were more than sweaty after a little more than 1.5 hours, which was not only due to the high summer temperatures, they were able to regain their strength at a barbecue evening together. Of course, existing contacts were deepened and new ones made.
Time in Viroflay passed far too quickly. The joint farewell training took place on Sunday morning, which was also very popular. The training was followed by the exchange of extensive guest gifts. The 1st JJJKC gave Leisböhler sparkling wine, cups from the 1st JJJKC and a wall plate kindly donated by the community. Our friends from Viroflay gave us a friendship wall clock for our clubhouse, which is currently still being renovated, for the new dojo, as well as a medal, certificate and drinking bottle for each participant.
In short, the visit to Viroflay can be considered a complete success. Regardless of the fact that the Corona pandemic kept us ‘separate’ for 4 years, the reunion and being together was as if the last meeting had been just yesterday. On both sides there is a desire and a firm will to continue to invest and expand this partnership and exchange.
