Remembering National Basketball Player Nilay Aydoğan: Basketball Court Named in Honor of the Fallen Hero

In the first earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and affected 11 cities, national basketball player Nilay Aydoğan, who wore the jersey of Çankaya University, one of the ING Women’s Basketball Super League teams, died in the wreckage of the collapsed building together with her grandmother Hacer Aydoğan, whom she went to visit in Malatya. Nilay Aydoğan’s name was given to the basketball court opened in Tekirdağ’s Marmaraereğlisi district. The opening of the field was attended by the Mayor of Marmaraereğlisi Hikmet Ata, Nilay’s mother Sevgi Aydoğan, her father Vural Aydoğan and guests. President Ata stated that Nilay Aydoğan’s name will continue to be kept alive in the basketball court built in Dereağzı Mahallesi, “It is very important for us, for those who love him, for those who respect him, that the name of the national basketball player Aydoğan survives. All young people who will play sports here will take Aydoğan as an example. And he will work hard to be an athlete like him.”
