PSG: Chelsea launches an offensive for Neymar!

What if Mauricio Pochettino played a nasty trick at Manchester United? What if the Argentinian found Neymar again this summer after having had him under his wing during their joint stint at Paris Saint-Germain? This scenario is far from impossible. Interested last winter by the Brazilian, Chelsea is back on the attack this summer, certainly under the impetus of their new coach.

A new track in England

The Brazilian striker was in fine form with PSG, scoring 18 goals and providing 17 assists in 29 appearances in all competitions, before suffering an ankle injury in February and having to withdraw for the rest of the season, missing notably the double confrontation in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

However, Neymar hasn’t always lived up to expectations in the French capital and has repeatedly been the target of criticism from club supporters, notably due to his injuries. The demonstration of supporters in front of his home could push him towards the exit door although he has a contract at the Parc des Princes for four more years.

Neymar focused on Manchester United?

According to Le10Sport, Chelsea are the latest team to come into line by entering negotiations with PSG, after it was reported that Manchester United and Newcastle were keen on bringing him to England. After a dark season in the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino, the new Chelsea coach, would consider finding the striker, whom he had already managed during his time at PSG during the 2021-22 season.

PSG will seek a ‘good’ price for Neymar to recoup part of the investment put into the biggest ever transfer (€222m) he paid Barcelona in 2017. The report mentions that PSG have identified Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as a priority signing, and the funds raised from the sale of Neymar could be used to finance part of the Portuguese’s recruitment to the English champions.

It remains to be seen whether Neymar will choose to join Stamford Bridge, because if the presence of Mauricio Pochettino can weigh in the balance, Chelsea will not compete in the Champions League next season. Moreover, it was previously reported that the Brazilian is only interested in Manchester United if he leaves PSG.
