Philadelphia 76ers and James Harden Begin Trade Discussions: Clippers and Knicks Among Potential Suitors

The short story between the Philadelphia 76ers and James Harden would already be coming to an end.

The star guard has signed his $35.6 million contract option for the next in the beginning of being traded. The two parties are said to have already started working together to explore transaction scenarios.

The Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks are expected to be among the teams to talk to the Sixers about a possible trade for Harden, ESPN sources say.

The 33-year-old appeared in 58 games last season for the league-leading Sixers with 10.7 assists per game.

He also scored 21 points per game – the 11th straight year he’s averaged over 20 per night. Harden also had 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Harden and the Sixers are coming off another tough playoff run by being eliminated before the third round for the sixth straight season.

Harden started his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but it wasn’t until a trade that sent him to the Houston Rockets in 2012 that he really took off. From that season through 2019-20, Harden averaged 29.6 points per game, including a personal best of 36.1 in 2018-19.

One of the most prolific scorers of the modern era, Harden is also a three-time scoring champion, seven-time All-NBA First Team member, and 2017-18 MVP of the season.
