PGA Tour and LIV settle dispute: Spectacular turnaround in golf

DThe PGA Tour and the DP World Tour announced that they will merge with the Saudi Arabian-backed series LIV Golf. All legal disputes have ended and commercial activities have been merged.

The move is “a groundbreaking agreement to unify the game of golf worldwide,” it said in a statement. As part of the merger, the Public Investment Fund, which includes LIV Golf, signed an agreement to combine its golf operations and rights with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour). A “joint, for-profit enterprise is being created to ensure all stakeholders benefit from a model that provides maximum excitement and competition among the game’s best players.”

The introduction of the LIV Tour 2022 had divided the golf world. The highly controversial series was financed by Saudi Arabia with astronomical sums. The US PGA Tour excluded professionals who competed in competitive competition. This included the German Martin Kaymer. Both parties sued each other.
