Semi Ojeleye renews with Valencia Basket until 2026

BARCELONA, 8 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Forward Semi Ojeleye will remain with Valencia Basket until 2026 after both parties arrived to renew the contract of the American forward, who in his first season as a ‘taronja’ has been one of the most outstanding players thanks to his offensive contribution and defensive work.

“Valencia Basket has reached an agreement with the North American forward with a Nigerian passport Semi Ojeleye (2.01m, Ottawa (Kansas), 12/05/1994, 29 years old) to sign a new contract that will join him to the taronja entity for two more seasons , until June 30, 2026,” the ‘taronja’ club announced in a statement.

In his first season as a Valencia Basket player, Ojeleye has become one of the most important men on the squad with 13 points – with a 43.6 percent success rate on three-pointers – and 4.2 rebounds for a 13 .8 average rating in 57 games.

Figures that were better in the Euroleague, with 13.3 average points in the top continental competition that made him the most valued ‘taronja’ player, with 14.2 average rating points.

The club highlights that in his first campaign Semi Ojeleye was very effective in shooting, especially from the three-point line. The forward was the best on the team in offensive efficiency during the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague (122.8) and is also the best in the Endesa League with 114.7 points scored every 100 possessions in the moments in which he has been on the court.

Furthermore, his relationship between triples scored and percentage places him among the best in both competitions. In the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, only Alec Peters is converting more triples than the 1.5 that the ‘taronja’ scored per night, with a better percentage than the 47.1% that Ojeleye achieved in the top continental competition.

After beginning to stand out at the high school in his hometown, his career at Southern Methodist University caught the attention of the NBA and he was chosen at number 37 in the 2017 draft by the Boston Celtics, for which he played four seasons, reaching the Eastern conference final in his first year. Also playing for the Bucks and the Clippers, his NBA career currently spans five years and 322 games.

His first experience in Europe was with Virtus Segafredo Bologna, with whom he averaged 9.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 11.1 efficiency in the Italian league and 10.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 10.8 efficiency in the Euroleague.
