Patrice Evra Discusses Investor Facet and Chaos at Estrela da Amadora in Interview

Former French international Patrice Evra gave an interview to The Times in which he addressed the investor facet in Estrela da Amadora through the North American group My Football Club (MYFC).

In the same, he ended up confessing that he was not waiting for the team to rise to the highest echelon of Portuguese football and that “chaos” had settled, which he will now face to “start the season in the right way”.

“Right now, as I say, it’s chaos. We weren’t prepared for this, but the people are very determined and passionate, and we’ll make sure we get the season off to a good start. This is our priority. I don’t want to talk about the project. The priority is the players and they return within two weeks. Have less than two weeks [de férias] than everyone else. It’s chaotic. My focus is on the players, ensuring that when they arrive they have the training center ready and understanding which positions the coach wants to reinforce. It’s a big job and I don’t know why I got involved in this. I was living a quiet life. I hope the club does well over the next two years and I don’t grow any gray hair», shot, good-natured, Evra, ensuring that MYFC’s position in the club has already appreciated a lot and confessing that he has even received an offer to sell it .

“I don’t own everything, but I have a good majority. When we bought the club, the value was 5 million euros. Now it’s worth 40 million. A few months ago we received an offer to buy our share. It belonged to a Premier League top club», he said, speaking of a love story with the Reboleira club, whose story he considers to intersect with his own:

«When I heard the story of Estrela, and having come from a poor childhood, it reminded me of the day I started in football. And that made me what I always said: if I was successful, now I want to help people. The people involved are good people, they have a good project and a positive mind, so I accepted. They welcomed me into the family right away. It reminded me a lot of my childhood and I would say that I will do everything for this club. I even completed my coaching course and I can coach any team, but sometimes, when you leave football, people want to see you as a coach or commentator, but they don’t want to see you as the person who sits at the table as the owner of the club. I’m trying to change all that. And it went so well that in eight months we secured promotion to the main division. It’s crazy.”

His objective now is to equip Estrela with the capacity to face teams of the caliber of the big three in national football.

«We are going for something that we know will not be easy, but we are going to try, put the maximum amount of money in the club, in order to prepare the best team for the coach [Sérgio Vieira], which was very clear: ‘if I don’t have a team to compete with, I won’t stay’. We have to give him the power and all the tools to deal with teams like Sporting, Benfica and FC Porto. Saying the name of these teams makes me dream, for my players, staff and team», he agreed.
