Pablo Cuevas Advances in Wimbledon Qualifying as Latin Americans Compete

The qualifying stage for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, has already started. There a total of 128 players participate for a total of 16 places in the main draw. And within that number they competed, on the first day, eleven Latin Americans.

However, of the eleven participants only four knew how to win and get into the second phase of the qualy. The winners of the day were: Pablo Cuevas (Uruguay, 37, N°904T, defeated Egor Gerasimov 6-4, 6-7 (8) and 7-6 (2)), Emilio Gomez (Ecuador, 31 years old, No. 127, defeated Ricardo Bonadio 6-4, 6-2), Juan Pablo Ficovich (Argentina, 26 years old, No. 243, got rid of Flavio Cobolli 6-3 and 6-4) and Tomas Barrios Vera (Chile, 25 years old, No. 133, eliminated Evgeny Donskoy 6-3, 6-4).

Those who fell in this first round were the Argentines Thiago Tirante, Marco Trungelliti, Facundo Diaz Acosta, Andrea Collarini, Genaro Olivieri, Mariano Navone and the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo.

The second round crosses of the winners will be: Gómez vs. Frederico Ferreira Silva (Portugal, 28 years old, No. 188), caves vs. Felipe Meligeni Alves (Brazil, 25 years old, No. 134), Vera neighborhoods vs. Rinky Hijikata (Australia, 22 years old, No. 113) and Ficovich vs. Dominic Stricker (Switzerland, 20 years old, No. 117).
