Ostapenko’s Resilient Comeback Secures Semi-Final Spot

In the duel between the Latvian and the Polish Frech in the quarter-finals of the Birmingham tournament, the spectators were treated to a match rich in turnarounds, before ending in a victory for Ostapenko 4-6, 5 –7, 6–2.

Indeed, while the winner of Roland‐Garros 2017 was trailing by one set and double broken in the second for a score of 4–0, we thought that the mass was said for Ostapenko.

But it was without counting on the resilience of the latter, who would come back to win the next 7 of the 8 games to take the second round and fly over the last to earn a place in the semi-finals. Asked after the game, she said:

“I said to myself that at some point, maybe I shouldn’t continue. But there is a fighter in me. I want to play until I can’t walk or something. »

A magnificent comeback which propels the 19th in the world to the semi-finals where she will play the qualified Dart or Potapova.
