NBA player Bennedict Mathurin wants to give back to Montreal

The Indiana Pacers player was at Henri-Bourassa high school as part of an awareness campaign by the Quebec Student Sports Network this week.

“I think it’s my job to motivate young people. It is an honor for me to be here today and to tell young people the right choices to make,” he said during a press briefing.

It will also take some getting used to seeing the 20-year-old athlete see this kind of appearance over the next few years.

“Coming back where you came from always brings a big smile.”

The NBA player plans to get involved in Montreal life, for example by attending games of the local basketball team the Alliance.

“I want to show that just because I’m in the NBA doesn’t mean I’m a superstar and people can’t talk to me,” he insisted. “I want to give back, sign autographs, take pictures.”

By doing so, Mathurin wants to show that he does not forget where he comes from and that he is grateful to Montreal.

Could he also invest with his good friend, the Oklahoma City Thunder player Luguentz Dort, in projects in the metropolis? Asked about this, he was vague, but agreed that the two athletes had already discussed this subject.
