Milan and Maldini, a new farewell – Corriere TV

(LaPresse) For the second time in his life for Paolo Maldini the farewell to Milan takes place in a stormy way. On the day of his last game as a player at San Siro, he was even booed by some of his own fans. This time in his managerial role he was sacked by the club’s new owner two days after the end of the season.

Maldini has worn the Rossoneri shirt since his youth, winning 26 trophies including 5 Champions League (8 finals played, a record). In 2020 he was included in the Ballon d’Or Dream Team as the best left full-back in football history. He returns to Milan — under Elliott’s management — as a manager in the 2018 season and holds the role of strategic development director of the sports area. In 2019 he was appointed director of the technical area to replace the outgoing Leonardo and obtained full powers in managing the market.

We owe Maldini the purchases of Rafa Leao and Theo Hernandez first, then Sandro Tonali and Mike Maignan. Elements that will make the difference in the 2021/22 season when Milan win the Scudetto again eleven years after the last time. Despite a fourth place and a Champions League semi-final in 2022/23, new owner Gerry Cardinale decides to sack him. (LaPresse)
