Mavericks Weigh Options: Contemplating Keeping Pick 10 to Enhance Squad

He pick Dallas number 10 has given a lot to talk about, from the intentional defeats to get him to the possible uses that the Texans could give him. But there always seemed to be one thing clear: the objective was to transfer him to improve the squad. Until now.

The Mavericks have begun considering scenarios in which to keep their first round, and have set their sights on two players they’d like to snap up if they’re available. Taylor Hendricks and Cam Whitmore have been chosen by the Texans, who might be interested in keeping their pick if either of them falls to tenth position and they can incorporate it into their squad.

Hendricks is a player projected between the sixth and 10th positions, and who aims to be a 3&D that moves between the small forward and power forward positions. With 15.1 points, 7 rebounds and a 39.4% accuracy rate in triples, he has just left very good feelings in his first season in the NCAA, although his limitations in offensive creation could make him drop some positions and give Dallas the option of seize their services.

Whitmore, for his part, seems like a more affordable target given that his medical reports have raised suspicions in some franchises. Like Hendricks, he seems to be aiming for the top 10 thanks to his physical power, as he is a fairly strong and aggressive player in attack and with good defensive performance, something he has shown at Villanova with his average 12.5 goals. However, if several of the teams they draft before Dallas remain unsure about possible future injuries, the Texans could have an opportunity.

Still, whatever the Mavs do with the pick 10 will also depend on the type of player they can access with him via transfer. They are expected to be a very active team in the next few hours, as this choice could be one of their best ways to improve the squad.
