Marc Marquez crashed at the Italian MotoGP and again failed to finish. The Repsol Honda rider admitted that he had held himself back and felt lucky that he was not injured.
Marquez started the Italian MotoGP at the Mugello Circuit, Sunday (11/6/2023) evening WIB, from second place. But he failed to maximize it to get results after slipping in the sixth round.
The 30-year-old racer fell for the third time this season and still couldn’t touch the finish line. Of the six series that have been running, Marquez has missed three races due to injury and crashed in Portugal and then France.
Marquez’s result also sums up Honda’s poor weekend. Alex Rins could not race due to a broken leg injury after falling during the sprint race, while Joan Mir also did not start due to a finger injury due to a crash during free practice.
Marquez said that the frequent crashes of Honda riders were due to a winning mentality that had not been matched by a balanced motorbike. In the end they have to appear more determined and take bigger risks.
“Friday it was Mir who fell, yesterday Rins. My best wishes for them to recover. Today I fell. Fortunately, I escaped injury,” Marquez was quoted as saying Crash.
“I really tried to control myself here, because I know that if you fall at high speed like this, normally you will get injured, like Mir and Rins. But we fell too much anyway.”
“Honda has riders with a winning mentality and if these guys don’t have a chance to be in front the problem is that a lot of people crash and many times it’s because we are pushing harder than the other riders in the laps. This is what happened,” he added.
Marquez hopes to at least be able to retrieve as much data as possible in order to change the situation as soon as possible.
“I keep trying. I keep trying and we need to stay united and work with the team to change the situation for the future. For the next races, for the second half of the season and especially next season,” he added.
