Maribel Solís Overcomes Sickness to Win Bronze at Special Olympics

Apart from the medals that the equestrian contributed, Maribel Solís was another Costa Rican who took the podium this Friday, at the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023.

The judo exponent seized a bronze medal in the F27 52 kilograms category and with that medal she gave a real lesson.

“I was a little sick, but I fought and I made it,” said this athlete, who in the past had attended the World Games in Russia and Los Angeles. She there she won the silver medal.

“I’ve been doing judo for a long time, I don’t know how long, but it’s a long time,” he mentioned.

Because he likes? “The teacher told me to get involved in that and I got involved,” he replied.

From that he practices it and assures that he likes everything about that discipline.

“These days I got sick, but thank God I’m fine now,” he said. When he woke up, he only thought about the medal, that he could get it, and he did.

“I am going to be 60 years old. I tell people to fight, many say I can’t, but you have to be able, you don’t have to give up and keep going. I dedicate this medal to my family, which is in San Ramón”.

She says that she trains almost every Wednesday, in Alajuela.

“I am very happy for this medal,” he added.

In other results, several bronzes were obtained in athletics: Mark Gómez in the long jump and Cinthia Hernández in the 3,000-meter dash.

Luis Alonso Muñoz, for his part, reached sixth place in the 3,000-meter dash. The same box was obtained by Yuliana Valerio, but in long jump.

Mariano Ramírez, in swimming, won the bronze medal in the 200-meter breaststroke.

The World Games bring together more than 7,000 athletes from around the world, began on Monday and ends this Sunday. The Costa Rican delegation is made up of 107 athletes. So far, Costa Rica has 54 medals in the Berlin games.
