On the 12th day of play, STORM welcomed the Guggenberger Legionnaires to the doubleheader on their home Dickman Field.

The Bundesliga newcomer started the game with some problems. STORM conceded three errors in the first inning. Last year’s southern champion, on the other hand, punished the Hessians with three runs by Vance, Grimes and Sweeny. In the third inning, both teams raised again: STORM with two more errors and Regensburg with another run.

From the 4th inning, the tide slowly turned. STORM put the first run on the scoreboard. Newcomer Matias Polanco safely hit homeplate with an RBI single by Victor Ramon Velazquez Guillen. But Regensburg answered immediately in the same inning. Heimler hit an RBI single, sending teammate Von Garssen home from 3rd base.

The home side dominated the next two innings. With three runs in the fifth – including a 2-RBI double by Hardman – and one in the sixth inning, the Hessians were able to level the game again shortly before the regular end.

With a 5:5 tie, the game went into overtime. The guests from Regensburg needed four extra innings for a narrow 7:6 victory. A Grimes sac-fly gave Heimler the final run in the 11th inning.

Legionnaire legend Matt Vance crowned the win with the 600th hit of his Bundesliga career.
