Konstantin Distel Wins Bronze at European U18 Judo Championships

Wuelfrath. The Wülfrather judoka Konstantin Distel won a bronze medal at the European U18 Championships in Portugal.

The European Championships took place in Odivelas, Portugal, from June 21st to 25th
of the cadets (U18) in judo. The young Wülfrather Konstantin Distel started for Germany. As the youngest participant in the German delegation of the German Judo Federation, the TBW judoka received the trust of the national coach for the weight class up to 81 kilograms
represent.

On the final day of the individual competitions, he managed to place on the podium. In the preliminary round, the Wülfrather had against Alessandro Bruno D Urbano from Italy and
Ivan Milicevic from Bosnia-Herzegovina won. In the quarterfinals he had to face himself against
beat the eventual winner Boris Rutovic from Serbia. After consolation round wins
Distel was up against Maj Kavnik from Slovenia and Micha Welter from Luxembourg
a Bronze.

In the small final, the 15-year-old, who came third in the German Championships, defeated the Georgian Giorgi Bendeliani. Five
Seconds before the end of the fight, Distel grabbed his opponent in a hold in which
this gave up.

The DJB judoka finished the individual competitions at the European Championships with two
Silver medals and a bronze medal as well as a fifth and four seventh places.
The Wülfrath high school student won the only medal for the male DJB
athletes.
