Karen Khachanov Forced to Withdraw from Wimbledon Due to Injury

Wimbledon will be played without Karen Khachanov. The Russian, victim of a stress fracture in the back during Roland-Garros, was forced to forfeit for the London Grand Slam which begins on July 3. The 11th in the world had already been unable to participate in Wimbledon last year, the Russians and Belarusians not being allowed to register.

“The decision to withdraw was not easy to make and I hoped until the end during these few weeks that I could recover, explained Karen Khachanov on Instagram. But my medical team assured me that in my case, it was not possible. The Russian was however in very good shape during the last Grand Slams, reaching the semi-finals at the US Open and the Australian Open, as well as the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros.

“I will now focus on my rehabilitation by working diligently to get back in shape for the tournaments in August,” he assured.
