The last trip of a long season took Jamal Musiala to Fulda on Saturday, where it all began for him as a footballer as a child and where his foundation is now getting its start.

The 20-year-old took his time in the stadium of SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz. The national player took a souvenir photo with all 15 teams that completed an E-Youth tournament, he met up with old companions, friends and family and then said goodbye on vacation. For Musiala, that will be over a week before July 13th, the start of preparations at FC Bayern, because he wants to prepare individually for the new challenges.
Strong first half, tough second half, happy ending
Musiala has had a turbulent season with ups and downs. An outstanding first half of the season in the Bundesliga, which was followed by the disappointing and early World Cup exit, when Musiala was a ray of hope in the German team, but was unsuccessful in scoring.
What followed was a tough second half of the season without the previous ease and yet a dramatic happy ending: Musiala’s goal on the last day of the game in Cologne in the 89th minute saved the 2-1 win and thus the German championship. “I think it was the most important moment of my career so far, but it doesn’t change my mindset, I always dream big, there are new goals,” said Musiala in Fulda.
In the end there were twelve goals and 13 assists in his strong Bundesliga record, second place in the scorer ranking behind Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.
Musiala on EM 2024: “Fear would not help us”
Despite his youth, Musiala is a reflective player and person who always wants to improve and strives for new goals. Accordingly, he is dealing with the difficult months of 2023. “Such phases are important, you can learn a lot from them, even as a person. It helped me to always keep at it. Sometimes I was annoyed because I worked hard all week and then the game didn’t work out as I wanted. Then you think a lot, but you have to have faith, see what you can do better, for example tactical things like positioning.”

He also knows that the national team is miles behind on their aspirations, but isn’t worried about the goals at the European Championships in their own country: “Fear wouldn’t help us. We have to stay positive and stick together. Hopefully we’ll be in shape when the European Championships comes.”
Foundation aims to support children and teach them values
His foundation focuses on teaching children values: gratitude, respect, empathy, responsibility and self-care. They should help to achieve goals in life. “I wanted to do something I could identify with. It made me think about how I grew up and what I wanted to have as a child. I now want to convey that to other children. They can learn a lot about values such as respect and responsibility, that will help them in life and achieve their goals,” he explained.
