Eden Hazard’s contract with Real Madrid has been dissolved in good consultation, the Spanish club reports on Saturday. The 32-year-old Belgian can therefore look for a new club free of transfer, although according to Belgian media it is also possible that he will stop.
“Eden Hazard will no longer be part of the club from June 30, 2023,” said Real’s press statement. The attacker’s contract ran until the summer of 2024. After the failed World Cup in Qatar, Hazard also put an end to his international career. His career at club level may now also be over.
Hazard grew into one of the best footballers in the world during his time at Chelsea and was voted player of the year in the Premier League.
Real paid 115 million euros for the technician in 2019 in the hopes that he would become one of the big stars in Madrid, but Hazard never lived up to the high expectations.
Hazard has only played six games this season
In his first season Hazard was injured and in the years that followed he struggled with his fitness. This season he was finally fairly free from injuries, but coach Carlo Ancelotti still gave the 126-time international only six playing time in La Liga.
Thorgan Hazard, the thirty-year-old brother of Eden Hazard, is also not in the best phase of his career. He has played on a rental basis at PSV in recent months, but was unable to secure a starting place in Eindhoven. Thorgan Hazard’s contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until the summer of 2024.
Real closes the season in La Liga on Sunday at 6.30 pm with a home game against Athletic Club.
