First love is never forgotten. Discalzi leaves Livorno and goes to PL Il Tirreno

LIVORNO. He was practically born and raised in the old and historic headquarters in Via Cecconi. With mullet in the heart. First as a fan, then as manager of that Time Out which for years was the official organ of Pallacanestro Livorno, a magazine you couldn’t do without before the game. And now Fabio Discalzi returns to his first love, to PL.

After years as manager in Livorno Calcio, Discalzi communicated to Joel Esciua that he wanted to embark on a new adventure. It wasn’t a traumatic or even a poisonous breakup, the two parties parted with a handshake. Simply Discalzi had decided to dive into this new adventure with the enthusiasm of someone making a new choice.

The manager had been linked to Livorno Calcio since 1991. He started with Claudio Achilli, then worked with Aldo Spinelli and Paolo Toccafondi. In the midst of brief interruptions, with his entry into Carrara, Monza and Bari. But Livorno has always been his first choice.

«I am happy and enthusiastic about this new adventure – says Discalzi – also because Livorno basketball was my first great love. Why this choice? Several reasons, but the main one is that I saw an important project in the management of PL and a great desire to build: the board of directors is determined and aligned, there is a lot to build at an organizational level but this is the least of the problems, indeed, it is one more stimulus. Everyone wants to build an important future».

Discalzi has always been involved in marketing and sales, but in the PL he placed himself at the disposal of the executives precisely with a view to the overall growth of the company. A new important technical sponsor could also arrive with Discalzi. Meanwhile, there has already been the first contact with Gianluca Petronio, the new General Manager. «Yes, we met, you can immediately see the stature of the professional. It will be a fundamental resource for the PL».

Discalzi will also take care of relations with the fans. «They are our great added value. We’re talking about a heritage that many clubs don’t even have in Serie A. I lived in the golden age of basketball and I don’t remember ever seeing such a compact wall of supporters. Yes, there has always been the curve, but against Mestre, for example, I saw 3,000 people cheering in a correct and enthusiastic way, from every sector. And it was beautiful. I’m going back to PL because I see that there’s a really great desire to give joy to these fans».
