Cleveland Cavaliers Unlikely to Trade Donovan Mitchell to the Lakers, Pursuing Other Options

As harsh as the headline sounds. Cleveland wants to sign Donovan Mitchell to an extension and he has assured that he is happy in the Ohio organization; However, the option that he chooses not to renew to change his scene is still so valid that for days there has been talk that the Lakers have the All-Star marked in red as their main objective if they go after a third star . Well, they may not even have the option to do so.

As reported by Sam Amico of HoopswireCavaliers owner Dan Gilbert will not transfer his star to the Lakers under any circumstances, since the assets they want in exchange simply cannot be offered in the gold and purple organization.

If the Cavs have no choice but to trade Mitchell so as not to lose him for nothing, in that case they would look for a package with multiple first-round draft picks, as well as one or two young players with star potential. Amico goes even further by giving the Miami Heat, which has Tyler Herro and Jaime Jaquez Jr., as an example of a possible business partner.

Thinking again about the Lakers, a package that balances salaries could include D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura; The thing is, none of these interest Cleveland. And to finish complicating things, they can only put the 2024 and 2029 first-round picks on the table. Mitchell would have to push hard for it to happen.
