Brazilian international footballer Vinícius Júnior, from Real Madrid, has agreed to join a FIFA team to combat racism, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Thursday.

The Brazilian forward, who was subjected to abuse and racist insults during his season in Spain, will work in a team that aims to minimize the phenomenon.

“There is no football if there is racism. So, the games must stop”, declared Infantino, in a message shared on the social network Instagram.

Vinícius Júnior, said the federative leader, will join this team, as well as “other important players”, to “develop concrete and efficient measures to end racism in football once and for all”.

It is the second time that FIFA has moved towards creating such a team, after doing so in 2013 following racist abuse suffered by Kevin-Prince Boateng, then at AC Milan.

Boateng also worked with the world football governing body until the team disbanded in 2016.
