A number of names are traded at FCA, but so far right and left defenders have been missing. Due to the contractual situation of some players, however, there are signs of changes.

Nobody can really accuse those responsible at FC Augsburg of inactivity in the past few weeks and months. The top management of the Bundesliga soccer club is rebuilding the sporting area in such a drastic way. Hardly any position is excluded. Head coach Enrico Maaßen, his assistant coach Sebastian Block and Jonas Scheuermann as well as the managing directors Stefan Reuter (sport) and Michael Ströll (finance) will stay, the construct is changing around them. With sports director Marinko Jurendic and Heinz Moser, head of development, additional hierarchical levels will be added. In addition, goalkeeper coach Kristian Barbuscak will leave the club and be replaced by Matthäus Witt, 35, FC St. Pauli’s youth goalkeeper coordinator.

The changes in the FC Augsburg squad are also serious. In the space of around six months, the Bundesliga club has committed far more than a full team of eleven. The upheaval during the winter break was followed by the next commitments after the end of the season. With goalkeeper Finn Dahmen (25/Mainz 05), Patric Pfeiffer (23/Darmstadt 98), Masaya Okugawa (27/Arminia Bielefeld/all free transfer), Sven Michel (32/Union Berlin/950,000 euros) and Tim Breithaupt (21/Karlsruher SC/2.5 million euros) five newcomers have already been confirmed. It is striking that there is neither a left nor a right defender among the commitments a week before the start of training. Even if the experiences of the past seasons show that there is a lot of need for action in these positions.
