RB Leipzig Draws 1-1 with Hoffenheim, Concerns Over Xaver Schlager’s Injury in Bundesliga Game

RB Leipzig missed the jump to third place in the German Bundesliga with a 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim on Friday evening. The loss of Xaver Schlager, who had to leave the field after a quarter of an hour with a knee injury, is a cause for concern. Austria’s team player slipped in a running duel with Andrej Kramaric without any interference from the opponent and grabbed his already bandaged left knee. After the game, coach Marco Rose gave the all-clear.

“He’s doing well for now. Without being a doctor, I can easily give the all-clear,” Rose told DAZN. After lengthy treatment, Schlager was able to leave the pitch without assistance, but the exact extent of the injury remains unclear. If Schlager has a serious injury, his participation in the European Championship in Germany, which starts in six weeks, is in danger.

Nicolas Seiwald came into the game for Schlager, and Benjamin Sesko finally shot Leipzig into the lead in the 38th minute. Christoph Baumgartner came on as a substitute after an hour, but after a yellow-red card for Xavi Simons (72′), the Saxons were outnumbered. Kramaric headed the ball for Hoffenheim to win the point. Florian Grillitsch played well in defense for the guests.

Leipzig remains fourth in the table with 63 points behind VfB Stuttgart (64). The Swabians will host second-placed Bayern Munich (69) on Saturday.
