Great joy for the basketball players of BG Lintfort. Because the native Lintforter and former BGL youth player Joel Aminu was promoted to the basketball Bundesliga with his current club Rasta Vechta last weekend. The Lower Saxony prevailed 3-1 against Jobstairs Giessen in the Pro A semi-final series and thus entered the play-off final series for the second division championship, in which the Tigers Tübingen (3-0 against PS Lions Karlsruhe) wait. Both clubs are already certain of promotion to the German upper house thanks to their entry into the final.
In the past few days, there was a lot to celebrate in Vechta – and Joel Aminu played a big part in that. In the ultimately decisive fourth game of the semi-final series, which Vechta won impressively with 112:87 in Giessen, the 27-year-old scored a sensational 34 points for his colors with six successful three-point shots and thus became the top scorer of the game. “I’m still a bit speechless because I didn’t expect the way the game went. But of course it’s all the nicer that way. I’ve always wanted to get into the premier league like that. Nothing compares to continuing to play in the club with which you managed to get promoted,” said Aminu after the game.
Finally, the 27-year-old had even more to celebrate. Because already in game three of the series he had contributed 22 points to the sovereign 88:66 success. Those two performances ultimately led to the former BGL’er being named Most Valuable Player of the Semifinals series with an average of 21 points, three assists and three rebounds. “I’m very happy for him, he’s a great player. We are happy that he is now going to the Bundesliga with us,” club boss Stefan Niemeyer said in a club statement.
