After Andreozzi’s victory over Sakamoto, Federico Delbonis and Santiago Rodriguez Taverna jumped onto the center court to define a place in the ATP Challenger 100 final in Cali. At 32 years old, the Azuleño suffered a notable drop in the ranking that forced him to return to this circuit. With the effort that characterizes him, he achieved three victories in a row to reach this stage. On the other hand, the native of Pilar came from having quite irregular results. He then failed to defend the points at Roland Garros and he traveled to Vicenza, where he lost in the quarterfinals. Already in Colombia, he got wins against Mukund, Serdarusic and Tabilo to be among the last four players.

Delbonis takes the first step

Matches between compatriots are usually quite close. This was not going to be the exception. In fact, despite having very few situations, including a set point for Taverna, they failed to make a difference. In the tie-break, Delbonis imposed his hierarchy and experience and took the first set 7-6(7-3).

Already in the second, the Davis Cup champion had the chance to seize the first break of the match, but Taverna denied it and won the fourth game to get 2-2. A few games later, Delbonis broke through and led 5-3. At the time of closing the match, Delbonis faced a break point, which after a doubtful mark, would fall on his side and generated frustration in Taverna. Finally, with a successful serve and net, he signed the victory by 7-6 and 6-4.
