Cristiano Ronaldo Sets World Record for Most Matches Played and Goals Scored

The 38-year-old Ronaldo is the world record holder both in terms of the number of matches played and goals scored. Before the match, he was also honored by the Guinness Book of World Records for his 200th appearance for the national team.

“I am happy. Never expect to play 200 matches for the national team. This is an incredible achievement for me,” the UEFA website quotes Ronaldo, who has played for the national team for 20 years. “And to score the winning goal in a game like this is even more special.”

The Portuguese national team has started the selection cycle flawlessly – they have won four games, scored 14 goals, and not lost a single one.

After four rounds in Group J, Slovakia are second with ten points, while Luxembourg is third with seven points. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland have three points each, but Liechtenstein has no points.

The winners of the first two places of the ten groups will enter the final tournament, while three more participants of the final tournament will be determined in March 2024 in the “play-off” games of the A, B and C leagues of the Nations League.
