The examining magistrate has proposed to the Competition Committee a five-game sanction against Fede Valverde for the punch that the Real Madrid midfielder gave Álex Baena in the Santiago Bernabéu car park at the end of the league clash that pitted the Chamartín team against Villarreal on April 8. The Uruguayan will therefore miss the first five games that Real Madrid will play in the 2023-24 campaign of the domestic championship: against Athletic, Almería, Celta, Getafe and Real Sociedad.

Fede Valverde’s attack on Baena occurred shortly after the match corresponding to matchday 28 of the League ended and ended with a 2-3 away win. The two footballers had had a dialectical scuffle in another previous Copa del Rey duel played in mid-January that led the Uruguayan to wait for the Yellow Submarine player in the Santiago Bernabéu car park. Once the under-21 international for Spain was preparing to board the visiting team’s bus, Valverde pounced on him and punched him in the cheekbone.

Baena went to a police station the following day to report the attack, while Villarreal came out in support of their footballer. The matter came into the hands of Anti-Violence, which transferred the complaint to the Competition Committee, now in charge of ratifying the proposal of the examining magistrate.

According to Baena’s account, Valverde’s aggression occurred without a prior provocation from the Villarreal footballer. On the contrary, the Real Madrid player’s entourage slipped out that Baena had warmed up Valverde in the Copa del Rey clash, alluding to the problems that his partner’s pregnancy was going through at the time.
