In this news, we give you an overview of the ranking adjustments that will be made at the change of season to 2022/2023.

For the new season, as a badminton player, you may experience that the individual’s points on the ranking list are not exactly the same as when you finished last season.

This is because you can fall into one of the groups where different recalculations have an impact on the individual’s points in the various categories.

There are several general factors, e.g. same current revised number of matches in each category, new interval schedules, new cohorts, etc. which comes into play at every change of season. You can read more about this in our FAQ. There are also other more seasonal elements that are important for the individual’s starting point. For this change of season, there are four elements in particular that are important, and you can read more about them here in the article.

In general, these are small shifts, and you are thus still playing with the same equal opponents with whom you ended the season, cf. the whole purpose of our ranking system.

All interval schedules are updated and can be found in the regulations. The only change beyond the intervals themselves is a minor change in the Elite series for U15 and U17, where it will now be identical, i.e. with 36 E players and 6 EC players.

The regulations for ranking lists and for individual tournaments have been updated and can be found in an updated version no later than Wednesday 5 July 2023 at badminton.dk.

The ranking list will be opened with all changes no later than Wednesday 5 July 2023.

Many questions can be answered by visiting our FAQ, and hopefully by reading this news. If you still have questions about the current change of season or special ranking questions, you can email bp@badminton.dk. Eventual questions will be answered after the summer holidays from Monday 24 July. However, we are very busy with the planning and running of the Badminton World Cup in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, and therefore a slightly longer response time than usual must be expected in the coming period.

You must be aware that the following for each age group may have an influence on the individual’s starting point from the start of the 2023/24 season:

The overall ranking generates too many points, after it was politically decided last season that points are no longer regulated in the event of expected defeat, and since all points regulating point rates are at the same time regulated to a minimum. It has therefore been decided in the Ranking Group that all players on the ranking list will be deducted 1% points on the ranking list in each category by an automatic formula for all active. It does not immediately have any real significance for one’s current row position. The percentage corresponds to the total accumulation of points in the Ranking during the season, so that the increase in points is kept neutral. For youth, a general administrative recalculation is again necessary, which we do at each change of season. It is largely about the fact that there are players who have not played to the number of points that suits their general LEVEL (one or more categories lag behind the individual’s overall general LEVEL seen across all categories). This means that you risk meeting an opponent in doubles who is somewhat better than the current points indicate. We would like to minimize that situation at each change of season with a general formula that is used in relation to all youth players. If, for example, the individual’s doubles category(s) lags a little behind, the individual’s points in the doubles category are raised to a more comparable level in relation to the individual’s overall registration level on the ranking list. The comparison used in the generic formula is if the individual’s double point lags more than 250 points behind their overall general LEVEL, or where the individual’s mixed double point lags more than 350 points behind their overall general LEVEL. The assessment of the specific distances is based on general calculations of distances between equal players on the ranking list. There are also ranks where players have been lifted in the individual’s category points due to the fact that the lowest points for the relevant rank have not been achieved. In some ranks, more team matches have been offered in one part of the country than the possible offer in other circles. Here, an automatic adjustment in points has been made based on the fact that overall, across all circles, a maximum of ranking list season change points can be calculated in the past season based on eight team matches. Thereby, a regulation formula has been created for everyone who has participated in more than eight youth team matches in order to avoid distortion of the ranking in the future. The joint team tournament group is aware of the problem and will ensure that it is avoided in the future, thus making the total team match factor more uniform for everyone. Unfortunately, LEVEL often gives rise to confusion. LEVEL is only made so that any player can participate in all three categories in it same tournament activity, so for example no parent risks having to drive between three different halls so that the individual player can participate in singles, doubles and mixed in three different tournaments, because the individual’s points are not identical in the categories. LEVEL is thus alone enrollment level and can be considered the individual’s general badminton ranking level. To reduce confusion, LEVEL is changed so that our algorithms run hidden behind the individual’s registration level letter. The current number of points, which has so far been shown under LEVEL, thus disappears. For the DH-Tournament, which today uses NIVEAU in the DH regulations, a special separate club solution has been created, which is placed in the team module, which is used for the DH-Tournament.
