Bautista advances to the quarterfinals in Halle and Masarova and Bucsa lose in Berlin and Birmingham

MADRID, 21 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista qualified this Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the Halle (Germany) tournament, scoring for the ATP and which is played on grass, while his compatriots, Rebeka Masarova and Cristina Bucsa were not so lucky and said goodbye of their respective journeys in Berlin and Birmingham (United Kingdom).

The player from Castellón finally managed to chain two victories, something he had not achieved since the beginning of the year on the Australian tour, thanks to his hard-fought victory over the American Brandon Nakashima, whom he beat in straight sets 7-5, 7-6(2 ).

Bautista, seeded eighth in the event, knew how to pull off a very competitive first set and decided in his favor with a ‘break’ when the American served to force the ‘tie-break’. In the second, he didn’t take advantage of his chances and the clash was complicated when Nakashima broke to make it 5-6. However, the Spaniard managed to return the break and end up sealing in the ‘sudden death’ his pass to the quarterfinals where he will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev.

On the other hand, in the WTA tournaments in Berlin and Birmingham, also on grass, neither Rebeka Masarova nor Cristina Bucsa could continue. The first, who saw how she was unable to finish her clash on Tuesday with an equal set against the Argentine Nadia Podoroska, finally fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while the second could not in her debut with the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, who won by a double 6-3.
