Diari de Girona announces the first edition of the Atenea Awards, with the aim of valuing, highlighting and rewarding the effort, talent and sporting achievements of the province of Girona.
The awards are made up of five categories with the aim of honoring all areas of the sporting world, be it athletes, members of the technical staff, managers, clubs or teams.
The event will take place on June 29, 2023 at the GEIEG in Sant Ponç, Girona, at 8 p.m.
Applications
The candidates will be people or sports clubs who, due to their career, results, achievements or sporting performance, have been a point of reference in the territory.
Nominations can be submitted, through a web form, from June 2 to 11. Participation will be open. You can submit as many nominations as you want for all categories. The reasons why the proposed person/entity/team deserve the prize must be explained.
Deliberation and voting
Diari de Girona will select 3 finalists from among all the candidates in each category. Those selected will be announced the week before the event.
Subsequently, a single jury will evaluate the finalists and decide who will be awarded the prizes for each of the categories, according to their own criteria. In the event of a tie, the vote of the representative of Diari de Girona will be counted twice.
The winners will be announced on the day of the event.

The jury will be made up of Eduard Recio, president of Girona CH, Stefi Batlle, CEO of Básquet Girona, Francesc Cayuela, president of GEiEG, Delfí Geli, President of Girona Futbol Club, a representative of Uni and Jordi Roura, Head of Diari de Girona sports.
Categories and evaluation criteria
Atenea Award for Young Promise: For the most promising young athlete (not senior) of the year. That he has been selected by the Catalan or Spanish national team and/or has been signed by a higher category team.
Atenea Award for Club Values: For the training work carried out by a club. To encourage and promote among children and teenagers the values and positive learning of sport.
Atenea Award for Exemplary Sporting Behavior: For the athlete, team or club that has performed a fair play gesture during the season.
Athena Award for Long Career: For a reference who has dedicated his life to a certain sport. Whether coach, ex-player, president, member, staff, centenary club…
Atenea Award for Best Sportsman: For the best sportsman or team of the season, whether for results, achievements or sports performance.
