Alvis, the Brazilian soccer player accused of rape, is still being held in custody

As is known, the 40-year-old Brazilian is suspected of a sexual crime against a woman last December. He was arrested already in January and has been in prison since then.

As reported by RTVE and local media, the court has for the third time rejected the request of Alvis’s lawyers to release him until the case is heard.

The footballer’s lawyers stated that Alvis will not run away and will stay in Barcelona, where his two children and ex-wife live.

However, the prosecution and the judge are concerned that he could go to a country that does not extradite its citizens to face trial in other countries.

The incident for which Alvis was arrested took place in a popular Barcelona nightclub on the night of December 30-31. If the Brazilian is found guilty of sexual assault, he faces up to 12 years in prison.

This season, the experienced defender represented the Mexican club “Pumas UNAM”, but he is on vacation in Barcelona after participating in the 2022 World Cup, where the Brazilian national team was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

During his career, Alvis has played for Bahia and Sao Paulo, Spanish teams Sevilla and Barcelona, Italian Turin Juventus, French Paris Saint Germain and Pumas UNAM.

During his career, Alvis became the champion of Brazil, Spain, Italy and France, but with the national team he won the “Copa America” twice and once in the Olympic Games.

The defender has played 126 games in the Brazilian national team and scored eight goals.
