The world and European championships in motocross took place in Ķegum last weekend. Latvian athletes also competed successfully.

As it was already reported earlier, the Reišuli brothers competed successfully in the European Championship, winning an award and significantly adding to their points in the overall ranking of the championship. Jānis – Mārtiņš reached the second place, while the older brother, Kārlis – Alberts finished immediately behind the podium – fourth. Edvards Bidzāns (7th year) and Mairis Pumpurs (10th year) also got points in the 250cm3 class. The others had a harder time and did not reach the points zone.

At the World Championship, Latvia was represented only by Tomas Šileika. On the difficult Ķegum track, Tomas did not have an easy time among the experienced participants of the championship. This time, Tomas had to settle for 21st place at the end of the competition. As expected, the main favorites distributed the awards.

In the MXGP class, the indefatigable Geoffrey Herling proved his superiority, winning qualifying and both races and taking the maximum points bag. On the lower steps of the podium, Jorge Prado and Romans Fevre, 2nd place and 3rd place, respectively. Both contenders on the sandy Golden Horse track were unable to oppose Jeffrey’s determination to win.

The Dutch and Belgians dominated the MX2 class without the current leader Jago Geerts. Only the Frenchman Thibault Benistans tried to “oppose” the dominance of his competitors, winning the third place on the podium. The winner is Case de Wolff, the second is Roan van de Mozdijk. Both drivers represent the Netherlands.

It should be noted that the rain that came in the middle of the race on Sunday significantly soaked the track, making the “life” of the drivers very difficult. Many mistakes followed, leading to frequent position changes and unpredictable results in the second race. But the strongest won.
