Ajax says goodbye to Florian Grillitsch after 620 minutes

The paths of Florian Grillitsch and Ajax will separate after a season, Florian Plettenberg assures. According to the journalist of Sky both parties have no intention of continuing the cooperation, even though the Amsterdam club has a unilateral option to extend the expiring contract of the midfielder for two seasons. A return to TSG Hoffenheim is obvious.

There has not yet been an agreement between Grillitsch and Hoffenheim on a multi-year contract, but a switch is ‘very well possible’, Plettenberg said via social media. 1. FC Köln would also be interested in Grillitsch, but the club from Cologne is not taking any action for the time being. Grillitsch, 27 years old, previously played for Hoffenheim between 2017 and 2022 and had to deal with Alfred Schreuder, among others, who brought his former pupil to Ajax last summer.

Grillitsch came to Ajax when the season had already started. It was all overwhelming for the Austrian in the beginning and he also got injured in November. A month later, the midfielder, who has an Expected Transfer Value (xTV) of 6.5 million euros according to the FootballTransfers algorithm, suffered a setback and was only fully fit again since February. In total he came to eighteen games, in which he played 620 minutes, for the first of the Amsterdam club, in which he did not score and did not provide an assist.

Halfway through the past season, Grillitsch had the opportunity to leave for Olympique Lyon. Nevertheless, he opted for a longer stay at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Grillitsch played a total of 257 official matches in Germany in his career, 178 of which were in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim. In it he managed to score 32 times and acted as a declarant 31 times.
