Walking football, did you know it exists? If you are curious, the best thing is to visit the Aldeia do Futebol de Aveiro on the 27th of May, when the first district meeting of Walking Football. Entries can be made via email. [email protected].

This modality, an adapted aspect of football, is aimed at people over 50 years old and its primary objective is to promote a more active life, through sports and social interaction.

As the name implies, the rules of the Walking Football do not allow athletes to run and limit to three consecutive touches of the ball, which cannot rise above one meter. Goals are only valid in bids completed within the area.

Each team is made up of five players, of all genders and without a goalkeeper, and the games last 40 minutes, divided into two halves.

“Anyone who has practiced collective sports knows that great friendships are made through them. This is the greatest asset of the project. Walking Football, because the older population tends to isolate itself. With this modality we create a community, we are inclusive. It is reassuring to see the joy of these people reflected on each one’s face, in training or in matches”, explained coach César André Coelho in a report published by AFA TV in 2020.
