11th Hour Racing Team wins by jury decision

The 11th Hour Racing Team was finally crowned the winner of the Ocean Race at the green table. After the crash through no fault of their own, the US crew received a bonus of four points at the beginning of the final 7th stage of the around-the-world regatta.

The organizers announced this on Thursday after a jury meeting. As expected, 11th Hour Racing overtook the Swiss team Holcim PRB. Boris Herrmann finished third with Malizia.

“I’m absolutely thrilled,” said skipper Charlie Enright: “This race demands everything from you – emotionally, mentally and physically. I’m incredibly proud of our entire team who have worked tirelessly for three years to get to this point. There were highs, some incredible highs but also lows that blew us all away, but they were all worth hearing this news today.”

A protest by Holcim in the wake of the accident at the start had previously been dismissed. In the crash, the 11th Hour yacht and the European team Guyot, with Berlin co-skipper Robert Stanjek, ran into each other.

11th Hour was not at fault, but had to abandon the stage – as so-called “compensation” they were now awarded four points. And are the winners of the Ocean Race.
