National: already champion, Red Star still beaten in Nîmes

The Red Star season will no longer be able to suffer any disruption, even if a few points are dropped at the end of the course. This Monday evening, in the closing match of the 31st day of National, the Red Star, crowned champion on Friday even before their match, lost on the pitch of Nîmes Olympique (1-0).

Taken by Nîmes’ intensity at the start of the match, Habib Beye’s men collapsed shortly before the quarter-hour mark, when Ismaël Camara took advantage of a favorable counterattack on the right side in the area to deceive Avognan with a strike in finesse from the left (1-0, 14th). The logical consequence of an early match won by the Crocos, more biting and who could even have doubled the lead by Mexico, who forced the Red Star goalkeeper to put himself in evidence at close range (29th), or by Mbina, who crosses his shot too much after recovering the ball in midfield and carrying it to the edge of the area (43rd).

At the break, Beye begins the big maneuvers with three changes upon returning from the locker room and the entries of N’Doye, Doucouré and Benali. Despite the best, and in particular a huge opportunity at the end of the match with a shot from Cissé which Diouf deflected with a superb tackle (90th + 1), the Audoniens never managed to find the fault in an end to the match marked by the fiery atmosphere at the Stade des Antonins.

This victory is good for Nîmes, which leaves the red zone (11th, 38 points) and offers itself a nice breath of fresh air to maintain its position. For its part, Red Star conceded its second defeat in a row this season, after the setback conceded to Bauer a week ago against Dijon. That day, Red Star celebrated the officialization of its promotion to Ligue 2; this time, it is a defeat which marks the obtaining of the title. Nothing to spoil the party, which will undoubtedly be superb in Saint-Ouen at the end of the season to celebrate all this.
