Already today, May 17, in the afternoon, the Latvian national team will meet Norway in the world hockey championship. Yesterday, the Latvian national team had a day off, only one player from the starting line-up practiced on the ice – defender Roberts Mamčić. Other players stayed in the Saeima, hopefully the good emotions will help in today’s game.
Latvia has entered forward Renārs Krastenbegs for the tournament, who will take the forward position reserved for Teodoras Bļuger. Now, only defender Alvils Bergmanis is unregistered, the team left the last place in the application to defender Kristians Rubin.
On the other hand, the Norwegians won yesterday with a minimum of 1:0 against Slovenia, until then they lost to Kazakhstan and 0:3 to Switzerland in the penalty shootout.
Latvians have played quite often with Norwegians in world championships. The very first meeting was already 26 years ago, when Latvia debuted in the elite group. At that time, Latvians won 6:3, Harijs Vītoliņš, the current head coach of the Latvian national team, scored two goals.
In total, the two teams have met 13 times in the world championships, Latvia has won nine of them.
