VIDEO ⟩ Youngsters turn to 100-year-old motorsport

As the viewers of “Atruma cilts” know, Paul Timrot has a special relationship with the speedway, that’s why he invited U-19 European champion Franci Gust and speedway historian Anatolii Kreipans for a conversation before the “FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Latvia” competition in Riga in August.

This year Speedway celebrates the centenary since its beginnings in Australia, but in Latvia this type of motorsport turns 60 years old. Francis Gust is one of the talents of the new generation, who started competing at the speedway at the age of 13 with the permission of his parents. Francis knows how to say that in this motorsport discipline it is safer to drive without brakes. The audience will also have the opportunity to learn how the athlete recovered after the accident last season.

Anatolij Kreipans did not get his mother’s permission to drive at the speedway, but he has observed that a screen is needed in both motocross and speedway gladiator fights. Speedway, as one of the TOP3 types of motor sports, is rich in tradition, and drivers have mostly been competing in it for generations. In Latvia, it is currently experiencing a generational change. Whether it is a good sign and whether we will see Latvian drivers in the summer’s biggest speedway event, we will find out in the new episode of the program.

In this season of “Speed Tribe”, Paul Timrots and the broadcast team are looking for adventures, technological innovations, legendary personalities and interesting interlocutors. “Atruma cilts” can also be seen every Thursday on LMT Smart TV and on the Internet.
