FC Twente Women narrowly lost a visit to Ajax Women last weekend and has therefore lost the lead. RTV East journalist Tijmen van Wissing saw the game and thought that the winning goal of the team from Amsterdam resulted from a blunder.
“Boy, what opportunities… This is an opportunity for Renate Jansen in the opening phase,” says Van Wissing at The East Stand, with footage of the duel in the background. “Then they get a corner kick and then there is no one in the sixteen meters. I thought that was a mistake. This is the goalkeeper of the Dutch national team. Completely hyped, that Van Domselaar, during the last European Championship.”
“Then it made me completely sick. Blunder. Go, Ajax scores”, the journalist refers to Tiny Hoekstra’s 1-0. “After that Twente got so many chances. Hit the aluminum a few times. They have been the best team all year, they were also the much better team on Saturday. I really watched the second half.”
He continues: “It was unlikely that FC Twente could not pull this off. Ajax is suddenly in pole position for the title. They will finish it on Sunday afternoon, in and against Zwolle,” thinks Van Wissing. FC Twente Women was at the top all season and, according to the journalist, failed to do so in the match against Fortuna Sittard Women (2-1 defeat).
“Here they shot themselves in the foot. That Van Domselaar is very clumsy. But with that deflected corner kick, no one in the sixteen meters, I think so too… I think there should be a penalty,” Van Wissing is critical . “It was a miracle that Ajax won this”, is his verdict.
